Scandi Retreat

This home has a wonderful Scandinavian vibe but is actually in southern New York state. The pure white walls with the black brick fireplace and of course the wood neatly stacked in the wall are great details. Great light fixture in the living room with a mid-century feel that mixes perfectly with the other furnishings and accessories in the room. Gorgeous white kitchen with marble backsplash....yes I think I could move right in thanks!

The Apartment by The Line

I have mentioned The Apartment by The Line before on the blog but I had never visited it on previous trips to New York. My daughter has gone several times and posted pictures on her Instagram (check out her account here - its amazing!). So we braved the cold and visited on Friday morning hoping it would be open…some days are by appointment only. Luckily the Director of The Apartment, a wonderful, knowledgeable and gracious woman, let us in and allowed us to wander and take photos . The Apartment is set up to look just like someone's home but every piece is available for purchase, including the gorgeous clothes in the closet. Truly it is a dream apartment from the architecture to the furnishings to the photos on the walls. A must see the next time you are in New York.

New York, New York

I am in New York visiting my daughter and I didn't think it could get colder here than Montreal but…..it is! The good thing about this city is that it is so inspiring and there are so many good restaurants and stores to visit and take warm up breaks in that I can almost forget about the weather. Tomorrow I have reserved my day for a visit to Brooklyn which I have not visited  in a long time so should be a fun day. Here is what I have seen so far...

Penthouse in Greenwich

The Greenwich Hotel in New York has an amazing penthouse that was designed by Axel Vervoordt. Typical of his style are the muted tones, rustic and refined look that has been adopted by companies such as Restoration Hardware. I have been a big fan of his for many years and have drooled over many of his design books. There is an incredibly timeless quality to all of his work and this suite is no exception.

50 shades of grey

I love all shades of grey….I mean the colour…not the movie….but in keeping with all of the fuss over grey these days I thought I would share with you some lovely grey decor, fashion etc. Different tones of grey (from pale to charcoal) mixed is the best way to go and when a bit of neutral tan or white is thrown into the mix ,well then it goes to the next level.

So…anyone see the movie?

Statement Chairs

I really like to see one statement chair in a room. It can be something bright, a super print or an unusual shape or style. Contrasting against a white background pops the look even more.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Textured Walls in Black

I am so into black walls, rooms, furniture and ceramics these days. Love the extra texture these black walls have and the depth they bring to each of the rooms. With the white contrasting in the way of furniture or adjacent walls, the rooms stay bright yet moody...this will be a part of my future decorating for sure.

Rustic and Bright

Such a cute apartment for sale over at Stadshem . This little one bedroom with bright renovated kitchen is so typically Swedish and has just the right amount of vintage touches against a bright white backdrop. Lovely colours in the living room with windows with no covering whatsoever...

Good Book: Creative Spaces

Today I bought this wonderful book called Creative Spaces by Geraldine James. A wonderful compilation of 20 homes divided into different design types such as "art-loving modernists" and "carefully curated purists". Firstly, I love the size of the book. It is large enough to see the pictures well but not so large it is hard to hold and the cover has a bit of texture which to me reflects what you find inside. This book is the third in a series from Geraldine, the others being Creative Displays and Creative Walls, and I have to say I love the feeling of each space she has chosen. They are very thoughtful rooms, not always my style, but always interesting. My favourite is John Derian's home in Brooklyn ( it is the cover shot). The way he has collected and styled his treasures is so intriguing that I looked at each picture over and over to take it all in. Really enjoyed this book and look forward to collecting the other two!

Yellow Chairs

These yellow chairs and couch are the perfect bright to put with white. So easy to paint an old vintage chair and add it to any room for a pop of colour. Love the vintage look in all the photos below.
