Bedroom Benches

Benches (or couches) really finish the look of a room. I would love to have a bench at the end of my bed but you do need a fair size room to get this look. Some of these gorgeous benches would fit in a smaller space like the wooden one in the first photo. I love how they styled the bench in this picture but it would have looked equally good without anything on it at all. I love the couch designer Christine Dovey added to the end of the bed in the second photo. The entire room is beautifully done.

What type of bench would you add to a bedroom?

Swedish Beauty

This sweet apartment in Sweden is one I lingered over for an hour today. Sometimes I just get so entranced by a home and how renovations are thought out by the owner. What strikes me about this place is how meticulously it has been renovated but how it doesn't feel really new or overdone. Some things are left to feel old and match the turn of the century history of the apartment. The furnishings fit this home so well and each room flows into the next yet feels unique on their own. I love the library so much with the tall stacks of books the gallery wall and the gold chandelier....lovely.

Renovation Redux

This wonderful 90 year old home needed a major renovation that no one wanted to tackle. Eventually bought by a young family with many craftsmen in the family to help them along the way.  They did a lovely job keeping some of the original features and changing when necessary. The hallway tile that was moved from another room in the house is from the 20's and vintage lamps, mirrors and furniture are found throughout the space. Love the olive tree in the hallway!

Vintage Home in Australia

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

This is an amazing home in Queensland with gorgeous upcycled vintage pieces. Many of the favourite finds of these homeowners came from auctions and were then repainted, reupholstered or resurfaced. Pretty turquoise shutters with a rattan basket and sisal carpets creating wonderful texture in the living room.....of course the blue and white ginger jars are perfect as well.  I also love the green on the base of the kitchen table and the pretty map in the bedroom....

Inspiration in White: Painted Furniture

I love painted furniture and I have many pieces in my home. Vintage furniture painted in a rustic way with chalk paint or milk paint are my favourites. I like how over time the lightly sanded parts become more pronounced and the intentional wear and tear sanded into the piece becomes real. I have done some of the painting myself and have had a few pieces done for me.
Of course the Queen of painted furniture is Miss Mustard Seed's, Marion Parsons. She is so talented and always does an amazing job on the pieces she hunts down at tag sales and flea markets. She has a great number of tutorials so head on over if you are considering doing a little DIY on a piece you have found or something you have at home. You can even buy her Milk Paint line to help you along.

Good Book: Modern Rustic

I have done posts before about how much I love Rustic style so when I saw this book by Emily Henson at Anthropology I jumped at it. Emily is a stylist and author living in London and she has a really good feeling and understanding of this style. Rough wood, stone, muted colours and all natural materials are the essence of the rustic style and pairing them with a modern take on furnishings and accessories is really the perfect combination. Emily says, "Despite its use of recylced materials and objects, this is not a typical vintage look; it is more original than that. Modern Rustic incorporates the latest interior design know-hows and exciting, contemporary materials, and brings rusticity with all its honest, unpretentious appeal, beautifully up to date" I think this statement sums up her book perfectly!

Inspired Collections

This home of Joanna Madden has the most wonderful collections. I love the way the shelves have been built to display her McCoy and ironstone pottery. Full of flea market and vintage finds each room feature an amazing collection of some type....luggage looks like one of her favourites...mirrors on shelves, platters on a wall rack..give so much character to a home. She also mixes fun textiles in an unexpected way, probably because of her fashion background. Great stripes, animal prints in grey and white and brown and beige tones look perfect against the pale walls. Lovely home...

Layers of Style

Very often I see a single picture of a house on Pinterest and think....oh this is so good the rest of the house must be amazing...Well this home was one I wished I could see the rest of and here it is! Such fantastic details and so well styled because it is the home of the wonderful interior stylist Johanna Flyckt Gashi from Hus and Hem. So many things to love in this cottage because there are layers and layers of incredible vintage accessories....like the locker in the office with a vintage style chair and lamp. The living room with the layers of great pillows and funky lamps and what about that kitchen! Layers of dishes, lamps and fun writing on the blackboard. This is seriously a great home.

Inspiration in White: Pastels

I love pastels so much and yes I have done many posts with pastels...but really pastels can be so shabby chic, so modern, so cool. When products are made in pastels, like lights, ceramics, chairs, Smeg fridges, well....I can't get enough. Surprisingly I don't have any pastels in my own home but the ceramics collection I am working on right now is in pale blue and pink...can't wait to get my samples completed! I also love some of the copper or brass lighting that work so well with pastels that you see in a few of these photos. Gorgeous!

Interiors: White and Wood

Such an incredible home from The Lettered Cottage I just had to share. The store and house (Check out the on-line store Atchison Home) are situated in one building and I am sure the furniture moves from one to the other rather often. All decorated in white rustic French style, it is really so amazing! Wonderful painted furniture, some left in the original wood color which makes a great contrast. Great tiled floors that provide a nice dark base for all the white and really anchors the entire space. My favourite spot though is the garden room with the metal sink. Love it!
