Pins of the Week: Koushi Lamp

I have always loved the cotton pendant lamps inspired by the original KOUSHI LAMP by photographer Mark Eden Schooley. Of course the Koushi lamp is rather expensive so there have been many DIY and knock off lamps seen on blogs and magazines. I have to say this lamp would look great in my office so I ave thought more than once about getting one myself but it is something I can dream about for a future space for now.

The original is available here and a wonderful look a like is available at Bodie and Fou.

Have a great weekend!

Inspiration in White: Gold and White Lighting

I found myself very attracted to the mix of gold and white these days. I have been decorating an apartment that we are doing in gold and white and I just love it. I came across the photo of a bedroom (first photo) done by the Toronto designer Christine Dovey (go take a look at her work here) and went wow! This room is just perfect and one of my favourite rooms I have come across in a long time. The use of the gold and white ceiling fixture and the black wall lamps is gorgeous with the mix of wood in the bed....well it could not get better than this.

I began looking around at other gold and white ceiling fixtures (or just plain gold) and I find they look really fresh and add such a wonderful richness to a space. Take a look at a few here...

Inspiration in White: Industrial Lighting

I was looking for a new light for my bedroom and I came across a great store with the most incredible industrial lighting. Really large vintage lamps that you would find in an old barn or warehouse. As I was looking through Pinterest tonight I saw the same kind of lighting in many kitchens and dining rooms. I just love the look and the impact of these large lights, usually in pairs, in stainless, grey and of course black. They give a great edge to any kitchen or dining room and work with many styles but are really perfect in a modern look....and off the subject of lights...what about that black Smeg fridge! Oh my....

Inspiration in White: Pastels

I love pastels so much and yes I have done many posts with pastels...but really pastels can be so shabby chic, so modern, so cool. When products are made in pastels, like lights, ceramics, chairs, Smeg fridges, well....I can't get enough. Surprisingly I don't have any pastels in my own home but the ceramics collection I am working on right now is in pale blue and pink...can't wait to get my samples completed! I also love some of the copper or brass lighting that work so well with pastels that you see in a few of these photos. Gorgeous!

Desert Farmhouse

This Farmhouse in the Sonoran desert is really just the most beautiful place! So much to love here!! This rustic home has so many elegant touches throughout. what about the gorgeous lighting, especially the gold in the bedroom! Warm and wonderful fireplaces in many of the rooms and of course the beamed ceilings. The kitchen is big, with lots of counter room and the most perfect appliances and sink for this farmhouse look. I like the way the tones in this house reflect the desert tones outside as well keeping the feeling of the desert flowing into this amazing home...

100 Year Old Farmhouse Goes Modern

This 100 year old farmhouse owned by designer Tobi Tobin has been redone into a modern, beautiful home. Full of mirrors in every room mimicking Mondrian paintings of rectangles and squares. There is also a wonderful mix of modern furniture in pale tones beside antiques in darker shades and you see the mix of black and whites in the bedrooms as well...and what about the wallpaper! Really gorgeous! The use of glossy black in the kitchen and on the doors really grounds the rooms and the wonderful chandeliers keeps it all bright and sophisticated....

Designer: Michelle James

This is the really incredible home in Brooklyn of lighting designer Michelle James. Once a fashion designer Michelle began the renovation of her brownstone in 2008 and what was a personal creative project turned into a career as an interior design consultant. During the renovation Michelle designed the many vintage style light fixtures in the home and her lighting collection was born. I find it so fascinating that this highly innovative and creative person has had such a varied career and yet it shows that in the field of creative work there are no limitations to what you can do!

So many gorgeous details in this home (including the lighting of course). I love how she has used the height of the ceiling to create drama with tall mirrors and the artwork in the hall. Simply beautful don't you think?

Crystal Chandeliers

What I like about crystal chandeliers is....well there is not much I don't like about crystal chandeliers (I like all chandeliers in general and have posted about them before HERE and HERE)....but what I find interesting is how they go in any space from formal and more contemporary to modern and vintage. I love them best when they are incorporated in the most unexpected decor. I mean you expect to see them in a more traditional home or with a shabby chic style but when they are in a very rustic home or used in a more industrial space with other industrial lighting, I am always delighted with the contrast. It is also great to see them used in an unusual area of the house like the pool cabana below. Love that extra touch of glamour!

Vintage Rustic Home

This is such an unusual home I am not exactly sure how to describe it....Rustic for sure with vintage style lighting and furnishings...but it is kind of kooky at the same time don't you think. The kitchen is made up of recycled pieces of wood but it is the pattern, texture and colour of the wood that makes it so amazing. Each room has hanging bulb lights which I love but it the dainty one in the living with the fringed shade that is really sweet....What do you think of this home?

Inspiration in White: Oversize Chandeliers

There are so many incredible lighting alternatives for every different style of home. I have a board on Pinterest for lighting and I just love some of the new simple industrial lights that are available.....BUT my first love is, and always will be, crystal chandeliers. One of the first posts I ever did on my blog was about chandeliers and mirrors here..

The best way to do a crystal chandelier is oversize..and by this I mean a real statement in the room..not a little one over the dining room table. The effect one of these large chandeliers can have in a room is amazing! The reflection and sparkle it can bring is like nothing else...

Enjoy!
