Colourful Stripes

I really loves stripes in decor...I find it can add at touch of whimsey to a space, it can add a preppy look or even feel traditional in the right home. It can make a space look wider or longer depending on the placement and it can also provide a sense of structure to a space as well. It mixes super well with other patterns like florals or checks and can be used in fabrics, painted on rugs, floors, walls or anything else you can think of...and you know what....it always looks amazing.

Dorm Decor

We moved my daughter into her dorm room at college this week and of course how she was going to decorate her new room was very important to her and to me as well. She looked for inspiration months in advance and we ended up buying a lot of things for her room at West Elm. There are a lot of rules around what you can and can't do so it makes it rather difficult to add decor...no nails in the wall or anything that can make marks...no painting or real changes to the structure of the room. We moved around the furniture as best we could and added pictures to the walls with washi tape and frames that were placed on the wall with a special velcro that can be removed without damaging the walls (we will see if that is true in about 8 months). 

Here are a few ideas that can be adapted to dorm rooms....and my daughters room at the bottom. It still needs a few more pillows but we will add those soon....

New York Eats

While we were in New York this week we went to some of the most interesting and delicious restaurants so I thought I would share. As I said yesterday...and well, many times before...my favourite store is ABC Carpet and Home so naturally I love to eat at the two restaurants in the ABC store location. On Friday night we went to ABC Cocina, which is Tapas style and was it ever good! It is such a pretty restaurant and amazing food. Love the mix of lamps thoughout the restaurant. On Tuesday night we ate at the second ABC resto called ABC Kitchen. Both of the places use the most wonderful handmade pottery as their dinnerware and the whole feeling is very organic, handmade and earthy. 

We also ate at Spice Market...owned by the same restaurateur, Jean-George Vongerichten......Really the best meal of the week...spicy food with a mix of wonderful flavours. Again the decor is amazing.

Lastly I discovered a Korean restaurant on Broadway called Barn Joo. Delicious and fun.

White in New York

I have been in New York since last week and I have seen so many wonderful things from white decor to white clothing and ceramics. The two stores I loved the most were Club Monaco and ABC Carpet and Home where many of these pictures were taken. In ABC they have the most amazing selection of white couches and beds I was in total heaven! The same with the ceramics....so many amazing artists are carried at ABC. The Club Monaco on Fifth avenue is the flagship store and is in a wonderful historic building with a florist shop attached, The Strand bookstore and a gorgeous coffee shop called Toby's Estate Coffee...all open to each other so you can move from one area to the other.

White Beach House

This beachy feeling house is available to rent for photo shoots or films from Beach Studios. Love the white floors and walls with the white furniture. I really love the kitchen with the big center table and industrial lights above....so cute.

I am New York this week and am seeing so many wonderful whites in furniture, ceramics and accessories. I will post about what I saw at the end of the week but if you want to keep up with what I am seeing you can follow me on Instagram.

Cozy Cottages

These cottages are so cute and cozy...some with shutters, others with ivy weaving around the windows and pretty roses. I really love the white cottage with black shutters in the first picture. To me this is the ideal look for a cottage...a classic look for sure. Add a wrought iron fence around the property and you have one perfect setting.

Small Space Beauty

I love this little house in Sweden...it has all the right proportions for sure. A nice size living/room office space is off a small eat-in kitchen that is all renovated. A pretty wallpaper really brightens up the space and the fun red chairs really pop. Two little balconies, one off the living room and one off the kitchen add another place to sit and make the space feel larger and more open. Very well planned indeed.

Sunday Blues

Starting a new week tomorrow and it is a big one....I drive my daughter to New York where she will start her Junior year at College. Moving from Montreal to New York is a big deal for her and for me...I am sad and sooo happy at the same time for her...and super proud.

So it seems only fitting on this Sunday to show you a few blues...beautiful blues any of which I would have in my own home.

Simple Farm Style

Love the simplicity in this Swedish farm house. No frills here with white wood and vintage pieces thoughout. Pretty accessories make the perfect statement in this house and I love the black metal handrail on the stairs! The bed is vintage brass and it looks like the dining room light fixture is also...

Stylish Swedish Hotel

I found this super amazing little hotel for sale in Sweden on the website Fantastic Frank. It is called Sawmill and there is the cutest restaurant, conference rooms and is right near a beach. The decor is really inviting and has been featured in many decor magazines and on numerous blogs. I can see why......hello gorgeous black Smeg fridge...
