A House with Soul

This beautiful home is Belgium is owned by the architect Vincent Van Duysen. Captivated by this abandoned but stately 19th century building he passed each day while going to work he made a few inquires and found it out it was for sale. Not shying away from the challenge of renovating such a massive project, taking apart a series of small offices and tearing up layers of carpets and flooring, and turning it into his home. There was just one problem. A former employee had taken up residence in a small room in the abandoned building and had basically become a hermit. Rather than evicting him Vincent set up some rooms for him on the top floor and let him live out the rest of his days there in peace. Now that, along with the incredible beauty of this space he created, make this a home with soul don't you think?

Enjoy!

Lifestyle Photographer: Carolina Romare

Just loving these wonderful interiors shots from Carolina Romare. She is a lifestyle, interiors, food photographer from Malmo, Sweden. Her shots are light filled and with delicate styling and attention to detail.

She says “I like the raw simplicity in things I see. Often I find myself thinking about how all objects and environments have a story to tell. Like a deserted house somewhere in the countryside or a 17th century armchair for example, I bet it’s got lots of secrets from various dinner parties and owners. It’s the history and stories that makes things truly beautiful.”

You can see her work in many wonderful Swedish magazines such as Skonhem and Lantliv.

Enjoy!

Pale Grey with Modern Vintage

Oh this is such a great little space! It is one of those homes that when I go to write the title of my post I could use a list of words because it is such a mix of styles! Modern, vintage touches, a little shabby thrown in, industrial....and it is all good together. I love the light in the dining room and the pretty colour and cabinets in the kitchen. The super shiny floors are amazing and the bedroom looks so dreamy! I have been seeing a lot of this style of flooring similar to what is in the bathroom and in the entry. I showed it in a bathroom post here...really looks great.

Enjoy!

Inspiration in White: Ladders and Tools

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

I always like the look of ladders and wooden tools around these shabby vintage homes. I have also seen them in more modern homes on occasion and thought how they add interest to a stark wall almost looking more like art than antique. I put a small ladder with books in my husbands office. It is a really cute old vintage ladder with some red paint on natural wood. I also have an old wooden shovel in the same office that gives the room a kind of old world feel. Lots of examples here of great ways to use a ladder in different rooms!

Enjoy!

Stylish Dreamy Home

One of my wonderful followers sent me a heads up about this fantastic home from Houzz....thanks Lisa! She was so right when she said this home is glorious....a really special place. This couple took six years to renovate and it was worth the effort. Some of the details I love...well to start the hanging lamp and ladder in the dining room. Aren't they fantastic? Also we have a glimpse of the garden table turned desk just off the sitting room. I would love a table like that! The birch railing and the numbers on the stairs are so great. Love these kind of little additions that make a home special....and of course the porch with curtains and a daybed. I could go on and on but I am having company for supper, it is three in the afternoon and I have not started cooking or preparing my table. Yikes! Enjoy your evening!

Enjoy!

Kinfolk Magazine

I am sure most of you have discovered the magazine and website Kinfolk but if you haven't I suggest you check it out. Kinfolk describes itself as a blueprint for a balanced, intentional lifestyle...full of gorgeous photographs and wonderful ideas and articles it feels like a very cool hipster/artist entertaining guide to me. The magazine is printed on wonderful matte paper and has a book like quality to it. I usually buy it at Anthropologie but you can subscribe to it on the website....which in itself is sooo well done. Gorgeous short videos with so much feeling and creativity...I am gushing now..but so thoughtful really. Kinfolk also curates an international series of events hosting between 12–30 dinners and workshops every month with a shared theme (Flower Potlucks, Campfire Cooking and Butcher Block Parties). Some of these can be seen on video on the website as well. My intention is to go to one in the next year! Take a look at some of the gorgeous photos and videos here...

Enjoy!

Shabby Beds

It is funny how when I am looking for homes to share with you I seem to come across certain things over and over...like a certain type of carpet or a lamp that shows up in various homes over and over. It is not just things that I know are on trend...I think it is just like I am seeing something old as if it were new again.  Well I have been seeing this certain antique of bed in all different styles of homes and they are such shabby goodness I had to show you! They look amazing in a bohemian setting or super sophisticated...I love them in white but they look gorgeous in colour or in wood as well. My favourite is the first photo..oh so gorgeous don't you think.

Enjoy!

Mid-Century Modern Cool

I don't know what it is but I am finding the coolest modern homes these days...not really my style as I personally tend to be more shabby chic than modern chic...but this look is really starting to grow on me. This Paris home is great with the mix of mid-century furniture and modern current pieces and what about the carpets...oh so beautiful. Such fun and why not have a motor-bike in the entryway? A great conversation starter for sure. What do you think? Would you like to live in a home like this?

Enjoy!

Inspiration in White: Displaying Pictures

There are so many inspirational ways to display your pictures, photos, paintings and even collectables. I love it when there is a mix of all of these on a wall just as much as I love a traditional gallery wall. I like to use washi tape, as in some of these pictures, or mix frames and photos held with washi tape on a wall. I also love to plaster my inspiration board with photos or line frames on a thin shelf, which I have done in my office. In my husbands office here at home we have done a full gallery wall which looks amazing....in fact I have many pictures throughout my home all put up in varying ways. Some are even done the old fashioned way..one at a time with a wire and hook! Some other examples here are pictures hung with clips or making your pictures into a shape like you see with the heart...so sweet!

Enjoy!
