Domino Magazine is Back!!

Yes that is right! Domino, my all time favourite decorating magazine (I have every back issue) is being re-launched. It was shut down four years ago by the publisher Condé Nast but fans of Domino have kept the magazine alive through Pinterest, posting old features and photos from the magazine. The editor in chief will be none other than Michelle Williams, who worked at Domino before it closed and went on to become founding editor of the on-line magazine Lonny. Back at Domino now, she is bringing fresh ideas to the new on-line presence and to the print issues out on newsstands next week. On-line you can view and read the article, you can view just the photos of the article and you can shop the items from the article! Such a great way to find the items you love from the magazine. Wishing good luck to the new Domino team!!

Enjoy!

Stylish Home in Brussels

This is the home of stylist and interior designer Muriel Bardinet. She also owns the antique store in Brussels called Dune 234. This home below was at one time an orphanage and a Japanese restaurant but you would never know by how much she has transformed the interior into a soft mix of vintage and modern pieces. Layers on layers of interesting pieces to keep the eye moving around each room. Things I really love in this house are the picture wall below and the dresser in the dining room. Just beautiful.

Inspiration in White: Bathrooms

You know what..I have never done a post about bathroom inspiration....at least I could not find one! I am going to redo my bathroom this winter and I am looking for some new ideas. I am pretty sure how I want it to look with grey and white tones and a grey wood vanity with a marble countertop, but I love looking for fresh ideas and there are so many gorgeous bathrooms on Pinterest. I wish I had a huge space but I have a rather small main bathroom so it will need to make a statement! It is so fun to have a big tub and a walk in shower like some of the photos below. So dreamy and romantic aren't they? What would your dream bathroom look like?

Enjoy!

Light and Bright

This is the home of the owner of Sukha in Amsterdam. She has a gorgeous shop that features much of what she shows in her home. Chunky knits, cotton and pale beautiful wood are shown in every room. So dreamy and casual, I just love it. This is a style of home I could live in....super easy, clean lines and natural fabrics. Typically Nordic and modern in the taste level but with a warmth and comfort that is so appealing.

I can see my own ceramics in a home like this with the organic materials and feeling of the line fitting in so well with this look. Hope you had a lovely weekend!

Enjoy!

A Place in Paris

Hello weekend! Well this post is a nice way to end the week...a little Paris apartment from Veranda magazine for you. So pretty with all of the blue jars in every room. I have blue and white vases and jars in my living room and I really love this look. Such a beautiful mix of antiques in this home and of course with the amazing floors and walls...superb.

Hope you have wonderful plans this weekend. It is apple picking time here in Montreal and the weekend is supposed to be warm and beautiful so a little wandering through the orchards would be good fun....

Enjoy!

Vintage Home

This wonderful 1820's cottage was redone in natural colours and vintage and French finds. This home just brings out all of my love for worn painted furniture and rustic decor! I love the different shades of grey on the walls and the pale pastel colours used in touches throughout the home..... I seem to be having a thing for pastels this week...and what about the incredible beamed ceiling! Oh I could go on and on..the column in the living room and the statue beside makes such a great corner display. The ironstone bowls running down the dining room table and of course the chandelier....ah yes. Super styling everywhere you look, every table has a little vignette that is incredibly well done. At the end of it all is a little tea house, formally a chicken coup, that sits in the garden....just perfect.

Enjoy!

Danish Delight

Beautiful summer house in the Danish countryside totally redone in gorgeous white decor. So many cute details like the Smeg fridge, the collection of jars and bowls on the kitchen shelves and the pretty purple accents throughout the house. The balcony is sooo sweet with the lamps and comfy relaxing spot with lots of cushions. I mean other than the little bit of an accent this is really a white on white home from floor to ceiling....but with the different textures and varying whites it feels really fresh I think.

Take a look at homes with Danish design HERE and HERE....

Enjoy!

Inspiration in White: Hats in Decor

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

Some of the most fun styling I have seen is when hats are used in decor. Naturally they are often placed in the entryway on hooks and are thrown there very naturally...other times they are really used as decor like in the dining room in the picture below. I don't just like them because of what they look like, although they look great...it is more what they represent. It makes me think of being outdoors, being in the sun, rain or even in the cold when you see a warm wool hat as you make your way into the house. It is really about warmth, fun, and style! They give a wonderful, natural feeling to a room and of course they are super practical to have hanging around!

Enjoy!

Pretty Pastels

I am really crushing on all the pastel colours I see on Pinterest these days! So great in a white room for a bit of subtle contrast and mixing all of the different pastel colours together looks so great. I especially like the brighter yellow with the pale green and pink. I have a very pale blue bedroom with neutral tones and white and I really love the softness of the look but it is really the only room I have a bit of pastel in my house. It would be simple to add though in a table or a lamp and I think it would pick up the look of the room especially if you keep it to a modern look. Of course pastel and shabby chic go together and always look great but shown as it is below is very new and fresh!

Open Spaces

Such a pretty home from Veranda Magazine featuring open spaces and gorgeous white decor! This great room has a living room, kitchen and dining room all in one large space. Now this does pose some advantages and some disadvantages but personally I love an open room like this.

My kitchen and dining room are all open with the living room closed only by a small wall, so basically it is a pretty open space. Now when I cook (swearing while I mess up a meal) it is open for all to see. I am possibly the messiest cook around..so this means pots and pans everywhere (disadvantage) but I can cook and chat with the guests at the table and not miss out (advantage). They can also come and stand by the island and help and chat as well (advantage). There is more light in all parts of the room (advantage) but finding any alone space is a bit harder because no matter where you are someone is not far away (disadvantage)......mmmm...so what you think? Do you prefer an open space or closed rooms?

Enjoy,

Trudy
