Swedish and French: The Perfect Pair

I always love the diverse styles of all of the houses I post on lookslikewhite but occasionally there are homes that I simply die for....and this would be one of them. These are houses I look at and my heart beats a little faster and that I could spend hours looking at. A couple of my other faves are here and here......

The reason I love this house is that it pulls together two of my favourite styles, Swedish with a mix of French Country. The rooms all look so warm and inviting...each piece of furniture is thoughtfully used and fits beautifully in the space. Then there is the mix of creams, whites and golden tones that looks so easy to pull together but only looks really wonderful when done with a practiced eye.

The photos are very artfully done by the wonderful photographer Enrique Menossi. You must visit his site to see the amazing work of this talented photographer!

Enjoy!

Inspiration in White: Painted Floors

I like the idea of painted floors. I reeeally like the idea of white painted floors. I have always said an all white home, floor to ceiling white, is superb.....I also think the idea of stenciling a floor can be beautiful in the right space. Doing the painting yourself does not look that tough but then I have never done it so I could be wrong. I have read about it on many DIY blogs and they are all very optimistic about doing it. Some of the rules of floor painting from Elle Decor are:

• scarify the surface with 150-grit sandpaper
• wash the floor with a powdered detergent cleaner to remove all dust and deposits
• allow floor to dry completely (this may take a couple of days)
• apply a primer suitable for your paint type
• allow primer to dry overnight
• lightly sand primer with 220-grit sandpaper
• wipe floor clean with mineral spirits, using tack cloth or a rag
• apply the first, thin coat of paint with a natural-bristle brush (which creates a smooth finish, rather than with a roller, which creates a stippled finish)
• allow paint to dry 24 hours
• apply two more thin coasts, allowing 24 hours between each

I like some of these painted floors but would I be brave enough to actually try it? I think so. What about you?

1. Painted or whitewashed

2. Painting a pattern or stencil

Interiors: Vintage White

This home is full of vintage treasures and comfortable, shabby beauty...all the things we need in a super cozy home. The Pottery Barn chairs in the living room are perfect for relaxing in front of the fire. I love the mix of wood with the dining room table, chairs, bench as well as the beautiful bowl in the center....and of course the entry is a beauty! So well styled...

Summer House in White

This wonderful summer house has got so many fantastic details....First of all I love the veranda. It makes me think of my trips to Maine in the summer. Then there are the fun built in couches that also double as beds for guests, the built in desk, the sleek storage cupboards, the concrete counters in the kitchen and the wonderful bright yellow accents in the guest room. Not to mention the wonderful wooden beds...which I would have to paint white I am afraid...

Enjoy!

Dreamy Decor in the South of France

How could I not love this house? First of all it is situated in the town of Uzège in Saint-Quentin-la-Pottery. This just happens to be in the South of France and I love the south and I hope to spend most of my later years in any small village there. Secondly, this town is known for its many potters (thus the name) and I, if you are not aware, am a potter! ( I need to visit this village on my next trip!)

Of course there are other reasons to love this house mostly to do with the fantastic decor. The renovation of the home began with the new owners, a young couple with one small child at the time, hiring local workers to do the finishing. Unhappy with the quality of work they decided to dive in and do it themselves, becoming experts in plastering, decor and design. I think they did a great job and really like the use of stone throughout the home. I also find the lettering above the counter in the kitchen very sweet and gives it character and coziness. What do you like best in this home?

Enjoy!

Inspiration In White: Moroccan Style

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

I was so inspired when I saw the photos below of this wonderful Moroccan Style home all in whites. Usually this style tends to be very colourful so to see these rooms all done in white, black and silver is such a treat. This is the getaway home of designer Valerie Barkowski who also has a home in Brussels.

I have also included the video of her home from the website Interieurs.fr. The video is in French but don't let that stop you from watching it as there are many features in the video that are not shown in the photos! What Valerie explains is how she had different artists help create the furniture and how she created the fabric for the pillows by doing x-rays of flowers! The home is from the 17th century so much of it has been lovingly renovated. The bed cover with the long shirt integrated into the vintage sheets is just stunning.  So beautiful!

This house is available to rent. Contact here www.darkawa.net

Rustic Retreat

This gorgeous space is not a home but a luxury bootcamp called The Ranch! Thanks to Est Magazine, we get a sneak peek inside these wonderful, calm and peaceful rooms....which I think you would need after being out all day doing four or five hours of group hikes, daily yoga sessions and core and ab work.

A bit if luxury with a rustic feeling, I think this is a place I could actually enjoy a week of detox!

Enjoy!

Nordic Charm

This three room apartment in Taarbaek, north of Copenhagen, is all done up in pale tones of blue, white and grey. With the sea visible from every room, the home matches its surroundings perfectly. Still lifes are set up throughout, put together with treasures collected over time on travels and with gifts from friends. The simple white floors really appeal to me as do the open shelving in the living room and in the kitchen. A beautiful little haven in the heart of a fisherman's village!

Enjoy!

Jo Malone Offices

Lonny Magazine has another great issue out this month and one of the features I love is showing the offices of Jo Malone. I have been wearing a variety of Jo Malone perfumes for many years and I really appreciate the packaging, the look and feel of the bottles and of course the scent of the perfume. My favourite is Pomegranate Noir and when I wear it someone always mentions how much they like it...

When I saw the offices for Jo Malone it was exactly what I would have expected from the brand. Situated in an 18th-century Georgian townhouse in London's West End it reminds me of one of the stores which looks like the Jo malone packaging.....pretty, feminine and elegant!

Enjoy!
