Interiors: House Plants

House plants have really come back into style as evidenced by what we see in these beautiful pictures. From succulents to Ficus trees there is such a variety of wonderful plants that work with the many different style of rooms. Personally I have just a few plants around my house as I am more of a fresh flower person. I don't have much of a green thumb...but I really would love to have one of these Fiddle Leaf Ficus plants (5th picture). Apparently they are very hardy plants and can withstand someone like me who tends to forget they have plants! They give the room a wonderful earthy almost exotic look don't you think...actually all of the plants do!

Enjoy!

Interiors: Designer Katty Schiebeck

The wonderful interiors of Katty Schiebeck can be seen on her blog Somewhere I Would Like to Live. She is a designer living in Barcelona and her homes are done with a super mix of sleek and warm, vintage and modern. Love the materials she uses combining metals and woods.....what about the wonderful different whites that are combined in this room below. So important to combine creams, whites and greys in a home so selecting what colour you put on the walls is really important!. I will do a post soon on all of my favourite colours!!

Pretty Pastels

I am really crushing on all the pastel colours I see on Pinterest these days! So great in a white room for a bit of subtle contrast and mixing all of the different pastel colours together looks so great. I especially like the brighter yellow with the pale green and pink. I have a very pale blue bedroom with neutral tones and white and I really love the softness of the look but it is really the only room I have a bit of pastel in my house. It would be simple to add though in a table or a lamp and I think it would pick up the look of the room especially if you keep it to a modern look. Of course pastel and shabby chic go together and always look great but shown as it is below is very new and fresh!

Soft Shades

This beautiful home of designer Mary McDonald is all done in shades of grey, taupe and white..lovely neutrals with a hint of pale colour...seems I am doing a lot of these types of homes lately...but I am suddenly very attracted to the pastels amongst the neutrals. I find it is a very easy and comfortable way to add colour to a home. She has added such great stripes everywhere and check out that chevron tile floor! What an amazing way to add interest to the room! It just goes so well with the other patterns in the room...and Mary really knows how to mix patterns as you can see by the other rooms in the house. The look and feel of the home  really extends to the outdoors as well. House Beautiful always has great inspiring spaces to share..

Enjoy!

White in Sweden

This is such a great apartment in Sweden. All white with many of the traditional Swedish touches....gorgeous tiled fireplace, all white wood floors and wonderful moldings. There are several features I really like in this apartment and the first is that every room is off the central hallway. I also love the barn doors that separate the office and living room and did you see that cool trompe l'oeil of the door. Soo cute. The oddly shaped kitchen has also been well done and did you see that interesting fan over the stove? That is new for me I have never seen anything like it! Of course I like Swedish style so much and have blogged about it many times. Here are a couple of other posts with Swedish apartments HERE and HERE...

Shabby Kitchen

This is such a great example of a shabby kitchen. So many pretty elements here... beautiful collection of plates with a gorgeous butcher block with drawers below and a really pretty lamp beside (love that lamp!). I like how one cupboard in the kitchen is green for a pop of colour and then carried through with some of the accessories. What about the vintage blue cart with the little blue step stool beside it...so nice. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend! Here are a few other shabby homes.. one, two, three..

Enjoy!

Gustavian Beauty

On yesterdays post I showed one small portion of this incredible house. I have posted this same picture before on Tumblr and on Facebook and I finally found the entire home. It is so hard to describe this house....it is so spectacular in so many ways...kinda over the top....but if you look at each piece individually you see the most beautiful furniture, architecture and detail. I am in awe of all of these incredible pieces in one room...tooooo much! There is not one Mora clock but four...not one Gustavian mirror with gold trim but several. Each bench chair and table has wonderful detail...and then there is the ceiling....whew I am out of breath..Enjoy!!

Enjoy!

Dream Kitchen

A group of bloggers, myself included, have been asked to write about our Dream Kitchen for Electrolux.....such an easy subject for me as I love drooling over wonderful kitchens and as a designer I just happen to be working on a couple at this moment, so I am definitely inspired!

My dream kitchen would be all white of course and a mix of vintage and modern in one space. I love a kitchen with open shelving and a mix of wood with the white. I like simple clean lines on the cabinets and I think my counters would have to be carrara marble and my backsplash in a wonderful simple white tile. I would need a little touch of French styling in the mix because.....well doesn't everyone need a little French style in the home? I think some vintage style lamps hanging above the island would be perfect to give it the exact mix I like.

Of course I would need wonderfully sleek and stylish appliances like the Suite Design from Electrolux. Vintage is important for your kitchen accessories but nobody wants a dream kitchen with old appliances! To create a beautiful, functional kitchen you need beautiful, modern appliances that compliment one another. Electrolux has a great range of refrigerators, cooktops and dishwashers that are so amazing that even I might feel like a real chef!

What about you? What would your dream kitchen look like? I would love to hear!

Enjoy!

Inspiration in White: Shabby Couches

As I was taking a stroll through one of my Pinterest boards today I realized I have a bit of an obsession with shabby white couches. Picture after picture of rooms with cozy, comfy and cushy sofas mostly with a slipcover but some without. My own home has a big shabby sofa from Montauk and a huge chair as well and I love them. Full of feathers and so easy to curl up on and take a nap or read a book. I love the look of sleek more tailored furniture but nothing is more comfortable or easy to take care of than a big slipcovered shabby couch! That is my shabby couch in the last picture...

White Cottage

The photos of this fabulous home are from the company Stettvoll. I have written about them before because their cataloque on-line is perfection. The furniture from this company is featured in these photos (no they are not paying me to say this!) and is the style I have in my home and what I just love. Clean, white, slipcovered and elegant, the styling of each photo is so well done...sorry I am gushing....but wow!

Go and take a look at the furniture they have and check the last post I did on them. It was one of your favourites last year!

Enjoy!
