Retreat in the Orchards and Vines

This amazing and beautiful home sits between Orchards on one side and vineyards on the other.  Originally three cottages dating back to the 1890's, Orchard Keepers as it is called,  has been lovingly restored into a beautiful four bedroom home that is for rent. Situated in South Victoria..that would be in Australia...this stylish house has got it so right in the decor and design..wow! So many things to love here..Simple, cozy, neutral tones, natural fabrics and textures..check, check check..Love the picture with the book pages and the wonderful wood throughout. Check out this other gorgeous home in Australia...Hope you are having a great weekend!

Enjoy!

Fun with White and Green

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

I was cruising through my last issue of Vogue Living and I came across the first photo below. Now I like a touch of blue in my home or a dash of red but have never loved green. Even when they announced this year that Emerald green was the Pantone colour of the year I was kinda mehhh....but when I saw this photo I said now that is nice! It got me to look around at photos of green in home decor and you know what..I am kinda loving this green! I mean green is nature and it is perfect in so many ways when brought into the home, food, and of course a little cocktail.. I am definitely changing my tune so long as white is present it is all good..

White Mediterranean Home

I really love summer and I can't even enjoy fall with the thought of another freezing cold winter around the corner..So to keep my happy summer feeling alive I will keep showing sunny locals and warm summer houses as long as possible, okay? This house fits just what I need right now with a gorgeous location and fabulous decor. Pretty terrace with a spot to lunch or nap and a wall of windows that lets in all of that amazing light. White vintage touches warm up the space and keep it feeling relaxed and not too modern. Just the kind of place I will be thinking of all winter long!!

Enjoy!

Well Edited Home

This home, owned by magazine editor, author and fashion designer Laurann Claridge, is simply elegant. Loads of texture and shine, it feels like such a fantastic mix of antique and modern, traditional and fashionable...Loving all the white furniture of course and the funky little surprises throughout the space...ahhhh,  a sheep in the library perhaps? Great rug in living room and such a cute headboard made from a four paneled screen in the bedroom. All of this is from the Lonny Magazine archives. Take a look at some more homes from Lonny here and here...

Clever Cottage Bathroom

I really find this bathroom super interesting...I don't usually show just one room but it really has some fun details in it that I think are worth focusing on. Just the layout is well done, with the half wall in front of the tub and the vanity in front..very clever. Also the use of white as the base with dark accents in the taps, the tub and what about that tile! I am really loving these tiles and have seen a lot of similar tiles used lately in all different types of spaces..The shower is great with the two shower heads and it looks so great with the curtain. We so often see glass enclosed showers we forget how cute a curtain can look....and really the vanity made from a vintage dresser...sigh..what more can I say.

Enjoy!

Inspiring Vogue Interiors

I follow Vogue Living on Facebook and they always post the most incredible homes. This first photo is brilliant. I have a headboard this exact shape and when I am tired of the neutral linen I have it covered in today I could totally slip-cover it. I had never thought about that (despite the fact that almost every other piece of furniture has a slip-cover)...I also love the trio of glass lamps over the table and the rustic dining room as well. What about the view from that gorgeous bathroom with the center tub and wall to ceiling tile...oh so beautiful!!

Enjoy!

Inspiration in White: Laundry Room

Okay, now isn't the laundry room really one of the last places we think about decorating...but it seems we tend to spend so much of our time in there! It is not a place I like to hang out but if it looked a bit nicer maybe it would be less painful to do the laundry. So much fun to have a vintage looking space to do laundry like in these photos. Adding cute accessories is key...and of course a really good washer and dryer! Other good investments for the laundry room that make a big difference are: fun lighting (not something I would have thought about for the laundry room, which is strange because it is all I think about everywhere else in the house), a big table or folding space, a chair and some storage space!

Swedish Interior

This lovely Swedish home has an unusual mix of colour with the brown and white. There are wonderful wood accents but the brown against the white is a great contrast. Not something I would do in my home..I prefer wood with white alone..but still very beautiful. Don't you love the living room fireplace! So gorgeous..really a very special piece that adds great impact to the room. I also love the moldings in the living room and dining room...The kitchen is super modern but fits well with this mix of vintage and modern finds. Here are a couple of other Swedish homes here and here.

Enjoy!

Inspiration in White: ABC Carpet and Home

I have been lucky enough to visit New York for work at least twice a year for the past 25 years. Part of my job during these visits was to go to stores and see what was new and exciting in the world of retail and to get inspired. Well there has never been a store that inspired me more than ABC Carpet and Home.

The history of this store is this...in 1897 Sam Weinrib starting selling carpets on the streets of Manhattan. His son Max then took the business and opened a permanent location as a discount carpet store. Keeping it in the family, Max's son then took over and moved it to its current location on Broadway and 19th in 1961. It grew over the years and a home store was opened up across the street.

Paulette Cole, a fourth generation family member, is the current CEO and Creative Director and she has really taken the store to a whole other level. She says the store is not about home furnishings but about loving... and with her creative team they travel the world to bring an incredible mix of furnishings (shabby chic to modern), carpets and home wares to this meca of home shopping. Many of the pieces are antiques or handcrafted by artisans around the world. Their saying is "Collect, don't decorate". I love that!

When I go in this store it's really an experience, not just in shopping, but for all of the senses. You can feel they have a passion, not only for beautiful pieces, but for the environment, health and wellbeing. Deepak Chopra host talks in the store, the restaurant ABC Kitchen has all organic ingredients and the store is committed to carrying eco products. But really at the end of the day they just have the most beautiful products that are incredibly well presented that make you dream....and really isn't that what you hope a store will make you do?

I love to see the kind of commitment they have to their customers, to their suppliers and to the environment. Well done ABC!!

(My daughter was in the store this past weekend and took these photos..)

Enjoy!

Swedish Home and Garden

This house in Sweden has such a great interior but the exterior is really a special. The house is over a hundred years old and nicely renovated but it is clear the owner has a really green thumb because the grounds and gardens are just lovely! I am loving the greenhouse with the table set for company and the gazebo near the pool area is so great...not sure about having a duck in my pool but it makes for wonderful styling of the photo!! Swedish style through and through this home with pretty pale white washed floors and white couches...Have a great weekend!
